Polka Club History

About Our Logo

The logo actually came before the club was formed. The St. Louis Metro Polka Club logo was designed by Stan Novak early in the year 1984. The logo - stitched in Royal Blue on a white vest - was used as a focal point to identify himself and friends to out-of-towners at various polka events throughout the country.

Soon after, Stan and 8 other individuals decided to form a Polka Club, with Stan the club treasurer. The clubs' eight original officers - Shirley and Leroy Schultz, Eleanor and Joe Kania, Betty Peek, Stan and Bernice Novak and Ray and Jeannie Knopik, were extremely proud of their efforts to bring people together through the love of polka music.

In just a few years, the club membership reached over 900 active members coming from twenty states, Canada and even Australia.

Notable musicians who joinded the club include Frankie Yankovic (deceased), Jimmy Sturr, Dick Pillar, Walter Ostanek, Jan Lewin, Roger Bright (deceased), and Marv Herzog (deceased) in addition to the many local musicians in the metro area.

The St. Louis Metro Polka Club is non-profit club dedicated to the promotion of polka music.
